first_imgFebruary 6, 2020 /Sports News – Local BYU Baseball’s Reid McLaughlin Named 3rd Team Preseason All-American FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailPROVO, Utah-Thursday, BYU baseball sophomore pitcher Reid McLaughlin was named as a third-team preseason All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.McLaughlin is a right-hander out of Scottsdale, Ariz. and was named a freshman All-American in 2019 by Collegiate Baseball and Perfect Game.He was also named to the West Coast Conference’s all-freshman team after posting a 7-1 record in 2019 and recording four saves as a reliever.McLaughlin is the first pitcher in program history to earn at least seven wins and four saves in a season.While pitching 51.2 innings over the course of 25 games last year, McLaughlin netted a 2.61 ERA, netting 46 strikeouts against just 11 walks on the season.The Cougars, who were 36-17 last season, commence the 2020 campaign February 14 at Surprise, Ariz. against Gonzaga as part of the Sanderson Ford Tournament.Other schools participating at this event include New Mexico and Oregon State.
